Plant Cell and Molecular Biology

Description of the research area

Responsible for the research area is professor Cornelia Spetea Wiklund

This area addresses fundamental questions in plant growth, development, response to stress and production of secondary metabolites. Topics being pursued include elucidating the role of the molecular chaperones and "housekeeping" proteases present in higher plants, membrane lipid trafficking within chloroplasts, regulatory mechanisms in plant photosynthetic membranes and plant adaptation to phosphate deficiency. In addition, molecular activities of various transcription factors have been studied in the plant innate immune system, plant pathogen responses, mechanisms for acclimation to cold temperatures, and light regulated development in seed.
