My main research interest is in the control of gastrointestinal motility and our group has specialised in non-mammalian vertebrates with focus on fish. My research involves studies on the intrinsic and extrinsic innervation of the gut using e.g. immunohistochemistry and different fluorescent dyes. This is combined with in vitro and in vivo pharmacological methods.
Recently, emphasis has been on the development of the enteric nervous system as well as extrinsic nerves to the gut in zebrafish larvae. Using a non-invasive video microscopy method our lab has produced several papers on the control of gut motility during development.
