I am a biogeochemist working on the soil nitrogen (N) cycle dynamics by use of stable isotope techniques. Specifically, I am investigating gross N transformations based on 15N labelling experiments in conjunction with data analysis via numerical data analysis tools, so called 15N tracing models (methods).
A special focus of my work lies on two general topics:
1) Effects of global change (climate as well as land-use) on soil N dynamics;
2) Better understanding of processes responsible for the production of the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide.
Overall my research is governed by the need for an appropriate representation of the soil N cycle in ecosystem models to achieve reliable predictions for global change scenarios and to develop N2O mitigation strategies. My work aims to provide the conceptual background for the improvement of ecosystem models.
